Youngman Stream Hut is in the Puketeraki Forest Conservation Area, which is in the Lees Valley area, inland from Ashley Gorge near Oxford.

The track to the hut takes 4 to 5 hours to walk.  From the hut you can return by the same route or by using a loop track which takes you past Tarn Hut (2.5 hours) before rejoining the main track further down.  This trip will involve an overnight stay at Youngman Stream Hut.  A possible alternative route is to go first to Tarn Hut (4.5 hours) and then on to Youngman Creek Hut.
