Beginning at Evans’ Crossing we will walk to the dam on the Pareora River, and then continue over the Evans’ farm making a climb to John’s Hut sitting at 350 m.  Here, good views are obtained out to the coast, Mt Horrible, the Maungati area and the Hunters Hills.

If we obtain permission from the neighbouring farmer we could walk even further to reach the top of Cave Hill (542 m) where there are expansive views over the Canterbury Plains and foothills.

The whole walk would take about 4 hours.
