Mount Barrosa (1364 m) is in the Hakatere Conservation area.  It is in the Ashburton Gorge area, a few kilometres west of Mt Somers.
The track starts on private land and slowly climbs up a grassy valley; then there is a more steady climb following a fence line and a poled route to the top.  From the summit you get good views of farmland, Mt Somers, the Arrowsmith Range and the Ashburton Lakes. The return route is back down the same way.
The walk is 3.5 km each way.  It will give your legs a good work-out and is not “just a walk in the park”.  A good level of fitness will be required.
