Chetwynd Conservation Area: Day-Trips (2)
Chetwynd Conservation Area is on the Albury Range, about 6 km south of Fairlie.
Two options will be available this day: a long trip or a shorter one. You can choose which one you want to do.
Long trip: From the carpark at the end of O’Neils Road, the track begins on a farm easement after which there is a descent on a track leading down to Tramway Stream. We will cross the stream and continue uphill on private property to Pt 1145. The 4WD track continues along the top of the Albury Range and after about 5 km enters the Chetwynd Conservation Area. From there we will descend on the track back to the carpark. This is a long trip of around 19 km so a good level of fitness will be required.
Short trip: Start from the carpark as above, follow the easement, then continue along the track in the Conservation Area. Go as far as those present want to go, then return by the same route to the carpark. The trip will involve a gradual uphill walk, followed by a gradual downhill walk. A moderate level of fitness will be required. Total distance is likely to be about 10 km.
Regardless of which trip you want to do, please contact Dorothy beforehand (as below).
