Permission had been granted from the lessee of the farm adjoining the Chetwynd Conservation Area to follow a 4WD track to Point 1145 at the eastern end of the Albury Range. A start was made soon after 9.30 am, first following the easement track and continuing along the fenceline to a junction where a track leads down to Tramway Stream which is a tributary of the Te Ngawai River. After crossing the stream and continuing uphill the zigzag track leads up to pt 1145. Lunch was taken in a sheltered spot after which it was decided to return the same way rather than continuing along the crest of the range to meet the track that leads to pt 1323, the highest point on the Albury Range. A good decision as, although it was a sunny day, a cold wind was blowing and the number of daylight hours is still limited at the beginning of August. Splendid views in every direction helped make the tramp worthwhile and enjoyable. Participants were Catherine and Don Y, Barry and Catherine T.
