Nimrod Reserve Track – 18 July 2026

From the DOC campground we crossed the bridge across Nimrod Stream to walk the 3 km circuit in an anti-clockwise direction. The track initially begins steeply through the bush and after about 40 minutes reaches a point where there are views over to the highest point on the circuit. From there, the track continues with downs and ups until it drops to Nimrod Stream. The cascading waterfall a few minutes upstream from the normal crossing place makes a worthwhile detour.

From the stream another ascent brought us to a sheltered spot in the open that made a suitable place for a leisurely lunch before climbing again for the last 15 minutes over rocks to the highest point on the loop.

From here there are excellent views to Mt Nimrod summit, Mt Horrible and the coast, plus mountains away to the north. The track then drops back through the bush to the car park.

Those who participated on this fine sunny day were Hazel, Colin and Judy, Robert, Dorothy and Heather from Waimate. Thanks to Hazel for organising this mid-week outing to the Nimrod Reserve. The track provides a good workout as it is more than just a ‘walk in the park’.
