The intention is to leave town around 5 pm on the Friday, drive to the Glendhu Bay motor camp and set up tents for a two-night stay ($20 per head per night). On the Saturday, drive up the west Matukituki valley (54 km, 1 hour from Wanaka) and have a day walk to the Rob Roy Glacier (10 km, 3 to 4 hours return). The following day, on the way home, there will be a walk in the Lindis Pass area.
According to DoC the Rob Roy Glacier track “offers an easy route into a dramatic alpine landscape that includes snowfields, glaciers, sheer rock cliffs and waterfalls” and “older children should be able to complete the track”, so our members should (hopefully!) be able to make it.
