Mt Harper is in the Ashburton Lakes area, to the south of Lake Clearwater, and can be accessed from Lakes Camp, Emma or Roundabout.  Its summit is 1829 metres, so from the starting point there is an ascent of around 1200 metres.  The plan is to drive as close as possible, then ascend either via the north face or the ridge (depending on conditions).  The return will either be by the same route or via the western side and Balmacaan Saddle (again, depending on conditions).  A moderate level of fitness will be required for this trip.

Note:  If the weather conditions on the day mean it is unsuitable to be on Mt Harper it is possible that Mt Barrosa (in the Ashburton Gorge area) could be an alternative destination.  If neither option is suitable the trip will probably be postponed until a later date.
