Details of the club’s mid-winter get-together are now available.

Many thanks to John, our President, for organising this event and supplying the following information …

I have booked out the Dunstan Downs Backpackers accommodation for Saturday night 19th June 2021.  There are 17 beds available for us, with linen and towels provided.

Dunstan Downs: You know, that place when you are driving to Central Otago via the Lindis Pass, out of Omarama towards the Ahuriri turn-off, those shearers quarters buildings on the left?  Well, that’s us for the night.

There are 4 or 5 cottages (with heaters), a common room and kitchen, and an ablution block with a couple of showers.  The common room could be cramped, but sociable.  We will be sharing the facilities with the grader driver who looks after the Lindis Pass road over winter – every winter this becomes his home away from home.

We will leave Timaru about 7:30 or 8 on the Saturday and drive a couple of hours or so to Dunstan Downs.  Once the fighting over the rooms has finished and we have settled in we will head to the hills – weather permitting.

The cost for accommodation and the evening meal will be $50.  Travel costs will be extra, and will depend on the numbers attending.

You will need to bring your own liquid refreshments and nibbles of choice for the evening, plus your lunches for both days and your breakfast for the Sunday.

On the Sunday we will head either to the hills again or to one of the remote historic cottages on the property – again, all weather dependent. (Catherine and Barry are looking after that side of things.)
