SUMMARY:October Club Meeting
DESCRIPTION:This month our guest will be Phil Brownie\, who will give us a presentation on the Te Ngawai Rock Art at Hanging Rock and the ecological restoration work he is involved with. He will also talk about the planting on the Alps to Ocean cycleway\, plus give us an update on progress with the cycleway from Pleasant Point through to Tekapo. \nAt a later date\, possibly sometime in November\, Phil is keen to have members out to Hanging Rock – to show us round\, get some help with weeding\, and take us for a walk up on to the escarpment. More information on this will be forthcoming at the meeting. \nAs well as Phil’s talk we will have the usual round-up of club news – recent trips and upcoming ones. \nThe meeting will be at our usual venue – Church Street Bible Chapel Hall\, corner Church Street and Avenue Road\, Timaru – and will start at 7:30 pm.  All members are welcome\, along with anyone else interested in the club.

SUMMARY:Waimate "Big Easy": Day Trip - Postponed: New Date 25 November
DESCRIPTION:Note:  This trip has been postponed\, due to an unfavourable weather forecast.  It will now be held on Saturday 25 November 2023. \nAn easy three to four hour walk\, starting at Te Kiteroa and climbing up to the White Horse monument\, where we can view the renovation of the site and also obtain good views of the local area and the Canterbury Plains. SUMMARY:Tribulation Hut: Weekend Trip
DESCRIPTION:Tribulation Hut is a small musterers’ hut in Hakatere Conservation Area\, and is tucked behind Mt Hutt ski field. It is approximately a 4 hour (10 km) walk in. The track starts from Redcliffe Stream and is initially through bush and along the stream (as parts of the track were washed away in floods about a year ago). Once at the hut we can drop our packs here and walk another hour (each way) to Cookies Hut\, which is another 6 bunk hut. \nGrade: Moderate\nTrip Organiser: Catherine 027 7163518\nMap references: BW20\, BX20
