SUMMARY:Mt St Cuthbert (Omarama): Day Trip
DESCRIPTION:A nice walk just south of and overlooking Omarama.  Last time the club did this trip it was too windy to get to the top\, so maybe this time it will be different. \nThe track starts from a DoC easement a few kilometres east of Omarama.  The whole walk is approximately 15 km.  From the summit (1558 m) there should be good views over Omarama\, Ahuriri River\, Lake Benmore and surrounding countryside. \nGrade: Moderate to Fit\nOrganiser: Catherine 027 7163518\nMap reference: CA15

SUMMARY:Little Mt Peel: Day Trip
DESCRIPTION:For some\, an easy training exercise. For others\, a bit of an uphill grunt! \nRegardless\, you get to walk uphill through bush and then open tops which give good views over a large part of South Canterbury.  On the way up you will be able to check out the seat the club installed three years ago to kick-off our 50th anniversary celebrations.  Bring your lunch and enjoy it at the top. \nThe meeting place will be in the Aorangi Stadium car park at 8:15 on Sunday morning. \nGrade: Moderate\nOrganiser: Hazel (03) 6882032 / 021 1705622

SUMMARY:Green Point Hut: Two-night Trip
DESCRIPTION:This trip was scheduled for December but had to be cancelled\, so let’s hope it’s “second time lucky” this time! \nThe hut has six bunks and is beside the Jollie River\, at the top end of Lake Pukaki on the eastern side.  To get there it is an 11 km walk up the river valley.  Apart from an undulating section near the start it is mostly flat going.  Along the way you walk past Jollie Hut (at the 3 km stage). \nThe plan for this trip is to stay the first night at Green Point Hut\, then explore further up the valley the next day – either camping out there or returning to the hut for another night – before returning to the road on the final day. \nGrade: Moderate\nOrganiser: Catherine 027 7163518\nMap references: BY16

SUMMARY:March Club Night (AGM)
DESCRIPTION:Our 2025 AGM will be held on 10 March\, starting at 7:30 pm at our usual meeting venue – Church Street Bible Chapel Hall\, corner Church Street and Avenue Road\, Timaru. \nAll members are welcome to attend\, along with anybody else interested in finding out about the club’s activities.  Don’t be afraid to come along.  You won’t be press-ganged into joining the committee or taking any of the other roles up for grabs or organising trips – unless you want to!! \nOnce the AGM part is over we can all have a casual discussion about the sort of things we would like to see the club doing for the rest of the year. \nThere will also be an opportunity to show photos of any trips you have done – so if you can get them on a pen-drive we will display them on the screen.

SUMMARY:North Temple Stream: Weekend Trip
DESCRIPTION:North Temple Stream is in the Lake Ohau area.  According to DoC the walk in the valley is 10 km return and takes 5 to 6 hours.  At the head of the valley is a large basin. \nThere is no hut in the valley\, so tents will need to be taken for the overnight stay.  The club has tents available if you don’t have your own. \nThe track should be easy to follow\, but DoC notes that some wash-outs have occurred due to high river flows and some windfall damage has occurred – so care will need to be taken. \nFor more information\, contact Barry as shown below. \nGrade: Moderate\nOrganiser: Barry 03 6885320 / 021 02689877

SUMMARY:November Club Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Another few weeks have rolled by since our last meeting! \nThis month\, now that the evenings are a bit lighter for longer\, rather than meeting indoors we will be going for a walk at the Otipua Wetlands – so dig out your walking shoes\, dust them off and get them on! \nWe will start at 7:00 pm\, a bit earlier than usual\, so that we will have time to get round the track before it is dark. \nMeet beside the main road\, just north of Saltwater Creek\, at the southern end of Timaru. \nAs usual\, all members and others interested in the club are welcome to attend.

SUMMARY:Waitohi Bush: Day Trip
DESCRIPTION:This Timaru District Council reserve is a short distance from Pleasant Point and offers two short walks: Kowhai Track (45 minutes) and Cabbage Tree Track (20 min.)  We are planning to do both of them before returning home for lunch.  This will be a great opportunity to stretch legs that may not have been stretched for a while – as well as those that may have had some recent stretching! \nThe reserve is surrounded by pine plantation\, but contains good examples of native bush and birdlife\, and offers good views over the surrounding countryside. \nThere is no need to book in for this trip – just turn up at the Aorangi Stadium carpark beside Morgans Road in Timaru at 9:00 on Tuesday\, and transport will be arranged from there. \nGrade: Easy\nOrganiser: Hazel
