SUMMARY:Chetwynd Conservation Area: Day-Trips (2)
DESCRIPTION:Chetwynd Conservation Area is on the Albury Range\, about 6 km south of Fairlie. \nTwo options will be available this day: a long trip or a shorter one.  You can choose which one you want to do. \nLong trip:  From the carpark at the end of O’Neils Road\, the track begins on a farm easement after which there is a descent on a track leading down to Tramway Stream.  We will cross the stream and continue uphill on private property to Pt 1145.  The 4WD track continues along the top of the Albury Range and after about 5 km enters the Chetwynd Conservation Area.  From there we will descend on the track back to the carpark.  This is a long trip of around 19 km so a good level of fitness will be required. \nShort trip:  Start from the carpark as above\, follow the easement\, then continue along the track in the Conservation Area.  Go as far as those present want to go\, then return by the same route to the carpark.  The trip will involve a gradual uphill walk\, followed by a gradual downhill walk.  A moderate level of fitness will be required.  Total distance is likely to be about 10 km. \nRegardless of which trip you want to do\, please contact Dorothy beforehand (as below). \nFor further information contact the Organiser\, as below. \nGrade: Moderate to Hard\nOrganiser: Dorothy 03 6881333

SUMMARY:Green Point Hut: Two-night Trip
DESCRIPTION:This trip was scheduled for December but had to be cancelled\, so let’s hope it’s “second time lucky” this time! \nThe hut has six bunks and is beside the Jollie River\, at the top end of Lake Pukaki on the eastern side.  To get there it is an 11 km walk up the river valley.  Apart from an undulating section near the start it is mostly flat going.  Along the way you walk past Jollie Hut (at the 3 km stage). \nThe plan for this trip is to stay the first night at Green Point Hut\, then explore further up the valley the next day – either camping out there or returning to the hut for another night – before returning to the road on the final day. \nGrade: Moderate\nOrganiser: Catherine 027 7163518\nMap references: BY16

SUMMARY:March Club Night (AGM)
DESCRIPTION:Our 2025 AGM will be held on 10 March\, starting at 7:30 pm at our usual meeting venue – Church Street Bible Chapel Hall\, corner Church Street and Avenue Road\, Timaru. \nAll members are welcome to attend\, along with anybody else interested in finding out about the club’s activities.  Don’t be afraid to come along.  You won’t be press-ganged into joining the committee or taking any of the other roles up for grabs or organising trips – unless you want to!! \nOnce the AGM part is over we can all have a casual discussion about the sort of things we would like to see the club doing for the rest of the year. \nThere will also be an opportunity to show photos of any trips you have done – so if you can get them on a pen-drive we will display them on the screen.

SUMMARY:North Temple Stream: Weekend Trip
DESCRIPTION:North Temple Stream is in the Lake Ohau area.  According to DoC the walk in the valley is 10 km return and takes 5 to 6 hours.  At the head of the valley is a large basin. \nThere is no hut in the valley\, so tents will need to be taken for the overnight stay.  The club has tents available if you don’t have your own. \nThe track should be easy to follow\, but DoC notes that some wash-outs have occurred due to high river flows and some windfall damage has occurred – so care will need to be taken. \nFor more information\, contact Barry as shown below. \nGrade: Moderate\nOrganiser: Barry 03 6885320 / 021 02689877

SUMMARY:Youngman Stream Hut: Weekend Trip
DESCRIPTION:Youngman Stream Hut is in the Puketeraki Forest Conservation Area\, which is in the Lees Valley area\, inland from Ashley Gorge near Oxford. \nThe track to the hut takes 4 to 5 hours to walk.  From the hut you can return by the same route or by using a loop track which takes you past Tarn Hut (2.5 hours) before rejoining the main track further down.  This trip will involve an overnight stay at Youngman Stream Hut.  A possible alternative route is to go first to Tarn Hut (4.5 hours) and then on to Youngman Creek Hut. \nMore information will be available closer to the time. \nGrade: Moderate\nOrganiser: Barry (03) 6885320 / 021 02689877

SUMMARY:Green Point Hut: Two-night Trip
DESCRIPTION:This hut (6 bunks) is beside the Jollie River\, at the top end of Lake Pukaki on the eastern side. \nThere is a walk of 11 km to get to the hut – all mostly flat river valley travel apart from an undulating section near the start.  Jollie Hut is walked past at the 3 km stage.
