SUMMARY:Mid-Year Weekend: Two Day Event
DESCRIPTION:Our much-anticipated and eagerly-awaited social event of the year takes place on the weekend of June 13th and 14th. \nJoin us for a weekend of fun\, food\, rest\, relaxation\, tall stories and maybe a bit of physical activity! \nThis year we will be at the Atwill Park scout camp near Waimate.  We have the place for one night – arriving around noon on Saturday and leaving on Sunday. \nNumbers are limited\, as only 30 are permitted to stay overnight.  If you are thinking of coming make sure to let Hazel by – Monday 8 June to ensure there will be a place and an evening meal for you. \nAn club has an information sheet about the venue and what you need to bring.  Copies of this will be sent to all those intending to take part. \nCatherine has very kindly offered to bring the main course for the Saturday evening meal and Justine has promised a special dessert.  Costs for these will be shared amongst those attending.  If anyone has special dietary needs they should let the club know.  You will need to bring your own breakfast and lunch\, plus nibbles and drinks. \nThe cost for the venue is $100\, plus $10 per person staying overnight.  Again\, these costs will be shared amongst those attending. \nThe camp is very near Kelceys Bush\, so some nice easy bush walks are nearby.  As we will be close to Waimate the Whitehorse Walk and the new biking track through the gorge will also be handy\, so bring your boots and/or bikes. \nGrade: Easy\nOrganiser: Hazel 021 1705622

SUMMARY:Methven Walkway - Biking Trip: Day Trip

SUMMARY:Chetwynd Conservation Area: Day-Trips (2)
DESCRIPTION:Chetwynd Conservation Area is on the Albury Range\, about 6 km south of Fairlie. \nTwo options will be available this day: a long trip or a shorter one.  You can choose which one you want to do. \nLong trip:  From the carpark at the end of O’Neils Road\, the track begins on a farm easement after which there is a descent on a track leading down to Tramway Stream.  We will cross the stream and continue uphill on private property to Pt 1145.  The 4WD track continues along the top of the Albury Range and after about 5 km enters the Chetwynd Conservation Area.  From there we will descend on the track back to the carpark.  This is a long trip of around 19 km so a good level of fitness will be required. \nShort trip:  Start from the carpark as above\, follow the easement\, then continue along the track in the Conservation Area.  Go as far as those present want to go\, then return by the same route to the carpark.  The trip will involve a gradual uphill walk\, followed by a gradual downhill walk.  A moderate level of fitness will be required.  Total distance is likely to be about 10 km. \nRegardless of which trip you want to do\, please contact Dorothy beforehand (as below). \nFor further information contact the Organiser\, as below. \nGrade: Moderate to Hard\nOrganiser: Dorothy 03 6881333

DESCRIPTION:This is an interesting area not too far from Timaru.  The main track is 8 km return\, easy-going\, and takes about 3 hours. SUMMARY:Maitland Hut: Weekend Trip
DESCRIPTION:This hut is up past the top end of Lake Ohau\, and is situated in the valley to the south of the Ohau Ski Field.  It is about 10 km to the hut from the road\, taking around 4 to 5 hours. The first part of the track is across private land.  Permission\, which has been obtained\, is needed to use this part of the track. \nThe hut has four bunks. A standard\, blue Adult ($10) DoC Hut Ticket\, or an Annual Hut Pass if you have one\, will be required.  Tickets are available locally – from memory\, from Macpac\, Kathmandu and the Timaru Visitor Centre.  Tents will be taken in case the hut is already full. \nIf you’re interested in this trip please contact Barry\, the organiser\, as below. \nGrade: Moderate\nOrganiser: Barry 021 02689877 / 6885320
