Walk from Tuohys Gully carpark to Meg Hut and stay the night there. (7 km\, 2 to 3 hours\, 8 bunks) \nFriday 7/11: Day trip. Walk along the Roaring Meg Pack Track from Meg Hut to Roaring Meg\, then return to Meg Hut by the same route. This will be a big day. (24 km return\, approximately 8 hours) \nSaturday 8/11: Walk along the Cardrona/Cromwell Pack Track from Meg Hut to Deep Creek Hut and stay the night there. (8 km\, 3 to 4 hours\, 8 bunks) Elevations: Meg Hut 960 metres; Deep Creek Hut 1325 metres \nSunday 9/11: Walk back from Deep Creek Hut to Meg Hut and stay the night there. SUMMARY:Methven Walkway - Biking Trip: Day Trip
DESCRIPTION:This is a 12 km loop\, but another 11 km return trip to/from the Ashburton River north branch can be added\, giving a total of about 23 km riding. \nWe will start near Methven cemetery\, bike through stands of exotic trees and then through an “enchanted” forest where fairies supposedly live.  We will then continue along Rangitata Diversion Race canal to the north branch of the Ashburton River\, before returning via quiet country roads back to our vehicles. \nAnyone on this trip will need to be responsible for transporting their own bike. \nGrade: Easy to Moderate \nOrganiser: Contact Catherine 027 7163518

SUMMARY:Chetwynd Conservation Area: Day-Trips (2)
DESCRIPTION:Chetwynd Conservation Area is on the Albury Range\, about 6 km south of Fairlie. \nTwo options will be available this day: a long trip or a shorter one.  You can choose which one you want to do. \nLong trip:  From the carpark at the end of O’Neils Road\, the track begins on a farm easement after which there is a descent on a track leading down to Tramway Stream.  We will cross the stream and continue uphill on private property to Pt 1145.  The 4WD track continues along the top of the Albury Range and after about 5 km enters the Chetwynd Conservation Area.  From there we will descend on the track back to the carpark.  This is a long trip of around 19 km so a good level of fitness will be required. \nShort trip:  Start from the carpark as above\, follow the easement\, then continue along the track in the Conservation Area.  Go as far as those present want to go\, then return by the same route to the carpark.  The trip will involve a gradual uphill walk\, followed by a gradual downhill walk.  A moderate level of fitness will be required.  Total distance is likely to be about 10 km. \nRegardless of which trip you want to do\, please contact Dorothy beforehand (as below). \nFor further information contact the Organiser\, as below. \nGrade: Moderate to Hard\nOrganiser: Dorothy 03 6881333

SUMMARY:Kakahu Bush: Day Trip
DESCRIPTION:This is an interesting area not too far from Timaru.  The main track is 8 km return\, easy-going\, and takes about 3 hours. SUMMARY:Maitland Hut: Weekend Trip
DESCRIPTION:This hut is up past the top end of Lake Ohau\, and is situated in the valley to the south of the Ohau Ski Field.  It is about 10 km to the hut from the road\, taking around 4 to 5 hours. The first part of the track is across private land.  Permission\, which has been obtained\, is needed to use this part of the track. \nThe hut has four bunks. DESCRIPTION:We will meet at our usual venue (Church Street Bible Chapel Hall\, corner Church Street and Avenue Road\, Timaru)\, starting at 7:30 pm. \nOur guest speaker will be Tia Matchitt from Environment Canterbury\, who will be telling us what we can do to avoid spreading water-borne pests between different waterways. \nAfterwards\, Dorothy will show photos of trips she has done to the Mt Arthur Tablelands area of Kahurangi National Park\, the Puponga Farm Park at the base of Farewell Spit\, and (time-permitting) some short walks in the Golden Bay area. \nAll members are welcome to attend\, along with anyone else interested in the club’s activities.

SUMMARY:Mt St Cuthbert (Omarama): Day Trip
DESCRIPTION:A nice walk just south of and overlooking Omarama.  Last time the club did this trip it was too windy to get to the top\, so maybe this time it will be different. \nThe track starts from a DoC easement a few kilometres east of Omarama.  The whole walk is approximately 15 km.  From the summit (1558 m) there should be good views over Omarama\, Ahuriri River\, Lake Benmore and surrounding countryside. \nGrade: Moderate to Fit\nOrganiser: Catherine 027 7163518\nMap reference: CA15

SUMMARY:Little Mt Peel: Day Trip
DESCRIPTION:For some\, an easy training exercise. SUMMARY:Green Point Hut: Two-night Trip
DESCRIPTION:This trip was scheduled for December but had to be cancelled\, so let’s hope it’s “second time lucky” this time! \nThe hut has six bunks and is beside the Jollie River\, at the top end of Lake Pukaki on the eastern side.  To get there it is an 11 km walk up the river valley.  Apart from an undulating section near the start it is mostly flat going.  Along the way you walk past Jollie Hut (at the 3 km stage). \nThe plan for this trip is to stay the first night at Green Point Hut\, then explore further up the valley the next day – either camping out there or returning to the hut for another night – before returning to the road on the final day. \nGrade: Moderate\nOrganiser: Catherine 027 7163518\nMap references: BY16
